There is a definite INNOCENT patriotism in which one naturally believes in his or her country and its IDEALIZED form of government . The French writer Albert Camus - a NOBEL PRIZE winner - wrote about loving his country IN JUSTICE.
I have been around too long to believe that American capitalism and American imperialism are compatible with social justice . Nor is the " American Way of Life " as suggested by radio and TV commercials compatible with the " The Sane Society " ( socialist psychiatrist Erich Fromm 's book is still relevant today ) .
What we don't need is a Stalinist VANGUARD PARTY revival led by some permanent Great Leader with his legion of " Clears " as in the daffy Church of Scientology ". It all ends with the inevitable " Gulag " as in communist Russia- and not long after THE REVOLUTION .
There must be on the Left respect for the FREE SPEECH , FREE THOUGHT tradition of Western Civilization . And no psychotic " war on God " !
