CLASS blind law ? Or the Law is an ass ?

Letter: Dan D'Alessio: Punish drivers who cut a funeral line with a $1,000 fine

I would like to address Mary Ellen Lukasiewicz's Dec. 13 letter ("Busy, mean-spirited motorists show no respect for funeral"). I am in total agreement with the writer that the person who cut in a funeral line was more than just too busy, mean-spirited and was disrespectful. He or she was actually breaking the law. Unfortunately, the law only carries a $25 fine. The bill was introduced by the owner of Alosio Insurance of North Providence before it became law. That prompted me to write my first "Letter to the Editor," which was followed by a copy of the law sent to me by Alosio Insurance...

          Does Dan D'Alessio  and other readers of the Providence Journal - including the esteemed editor - ever ask themselves just how CLASS blind is the law  ( yes , of course, we are a nation of laws . Thank God for sacrosanct LAW no matter how  blatantly unjust ) ?           In brief : a rich and rude guy can pay that $ 1000 fine in court and leave with a smirk on his face and no loss of comfort or human dignity . A working class man- a jewel in the rough- or a pauper with a valid driver's license ( and a heart of gold ) can be ruined by such a fine. It could hurt an innocent family.  An eviction is possible or a mortgaged home lost. A family can go hungry for a month .                Even a century ago you need not be a devoted reader of Charles Dickens or a red flag waving communist to conclude : " The law is an ass " .
