Addendum to Robert Berrillo's Kennedy Plaza shock ( letter, Nov. 25 )

"Apparently, this area is not patrolled, even though it is a major attraction, both for locals and tourists. Given the proximity to the river, the situation is a tragedy waiting to happen.    "  ( letter to the Providence Journal , Robert Berrillo , Nov.25 )

I have noted numerous times in my personal blog ( http://radicalrons.blogspot.com ) that the Kennedy Plaza scene in downtown Providence for years now is worthy of an H.P. Lovecraft horror tale. " The Horror at Red Hook " , for example.

On a very rainy and windy day waiting for the bus I needed the protection and cover of those dreary enough RIPTA shelters.  But I could not escape from stinking cigarette smoke and a cloud of pure white nicotine vapor- the nasty bad habit of " The People of the Abyss " in Kennedy Plaza.

I  thought about  asking  two conversing RIPTA bus drivers :  Why does the RIPTA management not enforce the NO SMOKING rule of the sign intelligible to illiterates or most Providence high school graduates ?  But they had the typical rude and ignorant RIPTA BUS DRIVER look ( comparable to Lovecraft's "Innsmouth look" ).

Where was the " cut above " management ? Any RESPONSIBILITY here ?
