As an INDEPENDENT democratic socialist I gave critical support to " socialist " Democrat Bernie Sanders in 2016 , voting for him in the Rhode Island Primary which he won. But the corrupt Democrat Party machine here later betrayed Sanders at the National Convention.
Beyond that it was clear that Hillary Clinton's DNC gang was actively sabotaging Bernie Sander's WINNING presidential campaign. Then began their HATE RUSSIA, New McCarthyism.
Both the populist nationalist Donald Trump and the " socialist " Democrat Bernie Sanders were attracting and energizing sizable crowds . The message was that WE THE PEOPLE were fed up with ESTABLISHMENT USA.
Just recently Trump pressed the right buttons for " anti-war -liberal " mood : " We cannot police the world - no more stupid endless wars in the Middle East . Which implies that WE THE PEOPLE do not support blindly any " Greater Israel " agenda.
Sanders IS weak on foreign policy . And I don't think the very left wing of the Democrat Party is an ideal place for serious socialists. But I am pragmatic -as were FDR " socialists " .
