A life long INDEPENDENT socialist, I have been reading Christ Hedges' excellent book on the death of traditional liberalism. I have followed more than a few Trotskyist sects over five decades and nearly all of them have degenerated into miserable sectarian personality cults very similar to the Church of Scientology .
The Trotskyists " Clears " of David North's Socialist Equality Party are now calling me a " fascist " for recognizing that the entire generic Left is wrong headed in not building bridges to the world's religious people . These sectarian " Trotskyists " are especially venomous toward the Roman Catholic Church.
With their subservience to some permanent GREAT LEADER these isolated sects contain the seeds of totalitarianism should any future anti-capitalist revolution bring them into prominence .
I do think the biggest mistake of the early Bolshevik party in Russia was to declare THEIR state " officially atheist ".
There is no dialogue with the Marxist TRUE BELIEVERS here . I am banned from the World Socialist Web Site after being smeared by one zealot as their " resident Catholic , anti-Semite , fascist ".
I find the articles of Chris Hedges much more instructive on " What Is To Be Done " . I recall David North interviewing him a while back ( Yes , FREE SPEECH for all , Mr. North ) .
Lenin and Trotsky were , of course, remarkable revolutionaries. For them Marxism was close to an exact SCIENCE . But SCIENCE is also a " god that failed " in the 20th century . I smile at a book titled " The End of Science ".
