Many people doing any sort of " research " would benefit greatly from a completely digitized Providence Journal. It is quite tedious to use microfilm.
The Brown Daily Herald did this. I checked out anti-war activity there on the Brown campus circa 1970 - the year of the Student Strike. I recall your Charles Bakst was an editor of that. student newspaper.
Old newspaper archives are hard to find. There were published editions of the Providence Journal at the Rockefeller Library in 1975 . I think they were removed . Around 1975 these real PRINTED newspapers were like a TIME MACHINE for me : What was it like to be a cop on the South Providence beat in 1933 ( as my mother's father " Red " Engley - the hair, not his politics ) ? What was it like to be cold, hungry, and jobless in Depression Era Providence ?
Are there legal problems here or just too much work : digitizing the Providence Journal from its early days in the 19th century. ?
