All American " unionism " a dead end -literally

Discussion on World Socialist Web Site

UAW President Dennis Williams backs Trump’s policies of militarism and trade war

" The extreme economic nationalism promoted by the UAW, the United Steelworkers and other unions dovetails with the fascistic “America First” nationalism ... All American " unionism " -unenlightened by class struggle leadership- leads in the same direction as bourgeois feminism and " identity politics " .

The religion of " patriotism " - which worships the Moloch god of war- is even more stupefying -and dangerous - than the Elmer Gantry brand of Christianity.

Memorial Day always strikes this old socialist as honoring WAR- not tens of thousands of war veterans - the dead and the living dead , broken in mind and body.

Way back in 1978 I was a union delegate for Local 1199 . The " boss " is still around, still influential in Democratic Party politics - now looking and dressing-even living ( ? ) like a Robber Baron Age banker. For the likes of these union hacks there is no salvation outside the Democratic Party.

For them heaven on earth is a gift to BIG LABOR of the military industrial complex. In Newport, Rhode Island - home of the revered Naval War College - we can never have enough nuclear submarines with no end to capitalist-imperialist war glory in sight.

Conditions in hospitals and nursing homes today in Rhode Island are a measure of just how useless and corrupt Local 1199 is.

You can be sure that that the union bosses here think Democratic Governor Gina Raimondo walks on water. She is LEADING the attack on the working class and the poor here. Her Memorial Day message reported on the local radio station this morning sticks in my mind : OUR " freedom " is still the " envy of the world  " !

What more can WE working class people want than the tyranny of the American plutocracy, of the ONE PERCENT ? What more can WE in Rhode Island want than friend of Hillary , " Wall St. Gina " ?
