Bourgeois democracy is becoming too dangerous for bourgeois rule ?

"In recent months, this campaign has entered a new and malignant phase. Increasingly dropping the pretext of “Russian meddling,” the Times is now directly attacking its main target: the fact that the internet, and in particular social media, helps empower the population to access oppositional sources of news and have their voices heard in public. "

More than 20 years ago I thought the Internet was a breakthrough in popular " freedom of speech ". A few years ago a " celebrity " newsman [ Gene Valicenti , 630 WPRO ] in Rhode Island -with his own ruling class screened radio talk program- began making snide criticism about COMMENT freedom in on- line newspapers. He found them to be an annoying and often disrespectful distraction.

No original thinker to be sure , this vacuous blowhard must have been pleased by other mainstream news web sites ( like NPR ) shutting down COMMENTS in the following months. ( in the midst of the 2016 presidential election ). And yet I noticed a dearth of COMMENT in many on line publications. Could FEAR explain this curiously shying away from " free speech " opportunity ?

Whatever FREE SPEECH is left in capitalist America exists only because of " populist " pressure ( the great imagined TRADITION ) . There is not a single editorial page editor of a capitalist, FOR PROFIT newspaper in America who is not a guardian- at- the gate, enemy of free speech .

How odd that " liberal " Democrats don't quite believe in " free speech " anymore nor in the democratic principle of MAJORITY RULE. They don't like even tame referendums.

The rule of the bourgeoisie is turning away even from bourgeois democracy ( at times rather dangerous for the ruling class ).
