The dismal state of American psychiatry

To be sure, the American mental health care system is a dysfunctional disgrace. But more
psychiatrists , more of the SAME , as they are professional trained in the past 50 years, will do little to help the deeply disturbed.

Psychiatrist Shortage Comes Amid Calls To Improve Mental Health Care

Whole books have been written by older generation psychiatrists exposing how the profession has become corrupted by the drug industry. Why probe a man's SOUL when it is easier to prescribe the latest pills ? And what can be said about the human soul in a capitalist crazy society ?

Well, a psychiatrist named Erich Fromm - a socialist humanist Jew - wrote " The Sane Society " way back in 1955 ( with updated editions ) . Fromm said his insights were inspired by both Karl Marx and Sigmund Freud. In a TV interview Dr. Fromm suggested that the defenders of capitalism were simply lacking in social imagination.

For some people A =A and always. But the greater reality is CHANGE : A does not = A in a universe of constant change.
