James Dean 's cry in " Rebel Without a Cause " - a " disconnected " youth today

Officials Vow To Ensure 'Justice Is Served' After Shooter Kills 17 At Fla. School

"You keep your eyes on those kids who become disconnected — you know, they're out on the fringes. And as a teacher, you try to bring them in to the fold, so to speak, in one way or another," he said. "It's part of our mission to make sure that kids become part of the overall community — and when one gets away, it's just sad."

Way back in 1965 I read socialist humanist Erich Fromm's classic book " The Sane Society ". Fromm raised a challenging question back then: " Cannot a society itself be sick ? " . And he argued how in so many ways capitalist America was a sick society .

Do public school teachers see themselves as pillars of a sick society ? " You try to bring them [ the" Rebel Without a Cause " ? ] in to the fold ".

Could the " disconnected " youth cry in the manner of James Dean in the 1954 movie : " You 're   tearing me apart ! " ?

Democratic socialists think we need more youth to be constructively " disconnected " from the capitalist  INSANE way of life .
