I have had a number of questions about the ideological status of " socialism- communism " in modern China and post-Soviet era Russia. The World Socialist Web Site has been helpful here but much remains in the dark. Question : how do leaders of great nation states who once called themselves " communists " - or still do - deal with the Haunted Past ? How can they - with pathological suddenness - begin to say : " Capitalism good, communism bad " ? And with millions of now literate workers as unquestioning as Dark Age peasants in Catholic Europe ?
Imagine if the Catholic Church - as corroded as it is - suddenly told the more prosperous " faithful " that Jesus no longer loves the poor- because they are lazy, ignorant , and stupid ?
To be sure, it still tells the poor now in a mere whisper- especially in the USA - " slaves obey your masters ". And honor the false god of " patriotism " .
There must be some profound social psychology behind an impudent denial of old-or even ancient - values .
I rarely read " socialist " authors defending Marx's still cogent labor theory of value. As if it were as naive as superstitious astrology. The labor theory of value has eloquent support in modern physics : which says, YOU CAN'T GET SOMETHING FOR NOTHING ( except in the Big Bang ). Clear this with the ONE PERCENT who own everything.
