I can imagine Leon Trotsky writing a perpetual " Diary in Exile " with its daily theme being the prolonged death agony of capitalism. Again 2+ 2 = 4. George Orwell's hero , Winston Smith , keeps a diary in " 1984 " and reasons that objective reality is the ultimate enemy of " Big Brother " and the fascist state nightmare.
I think we can apply the biological concept of " punctuated equilibrium " to the human social order : long periods of rot and then SUDDENLY dizzying change and " revolution ".
