@Bud Dee Just a bit of radical sociology here : kids should not be dependent on the cramped and stressed nuclear - or ONE PARENT - family for their vital needs. The old fashioned extended Chinese Family was much better at preventing social and moral chaos. 

           A lot of kids today don't even care to visit an aunt, an uncle, grandmothers and grandfathers, cousins.

A student in my brother's graphic arts course at the Rhode Island School of Design said : " Americans strike me as the loneliest people in the world ! " 

       Hillary Clinton got one thing right : " It takes a community... "

Supercilious readers of this story will find some pleasure in moral indignation. I was browsing a book titled " Smashed " just yesterday. It was written by a young white female alcoholic , Koren Zailckas.  I wondered why these authors think the public is endlessly fascinated with the egocentric confessions of drunks. What I sensed in " Smashed " is a flat, dull, self-centered personality with little spiritual or intellectual vitality- and an all too obvious " chip on the shoulder ". The last pages express a gratuitous contempt for ALL men. 

           Perhaps " The Feminine Mystique " was not to be mocked, after all. Motherly love in mothers made the human race possible.
