'One Person Can Make A Difference': Psychiatrist Says Carter Manslaughter Verdict Carries Suicide Prevention Lessons

I disagree with the verdict here. The girl is too young to be found guilty of anything but personal rottenness. Not every SIN should be a crime.

Also don't expect American psychiatry to come to rescue of any troubled souls - if they are poor and working class. American psychiatry has no quarrel with the capitalist status quo - which breeds despair in millions.

American psychiatrists might benefit from reading a still relevant book of social criticism written by one of their own : Erich Fromm 's - " The Sane Society ".

Fromm's book " The Art of Loving " was recommended in my 1960s high school. He would describe himself as a " socialist humanist ".

Fromm 's book " The Anatomy of Human Destructiveness " offers a rational explanation for the rise of fascist movements in periods of capitalist crisis .

Despair is up in the USA and life expectancy is down. And bourgeois psychiatry is useless.
