The smearing of the master of horror writer H.P. Lovecraft fits in
with current vacuous and vicious " identity politics ".
Lovecraft biographer S.T. Joshi has written quite enough about this aspect of Lovecraft’s character in his early years. This rather shameless racism was typical of the whole New England upper class – from which Lovecraft had his roots.
In his last few years he clearly evolved into a moderate socialist happy about FDR’s re-election in 1936. For his anti-capitalist views in 1936 and 1937 consult his " Letters " .
It is wrong to associate H.P. Lovecraft with crypto-fascist occultism. He was a hard core scientific materialist to the end of his life. As a young man he had written letters against Astrology published in Providence, Rhode Island newspapers.
I don’t recall Lovecraft bashing organized religion with as much irrational venom as the New Atheists. These people are invariably cheer leaders for US militarism, for the New Colonialism in the Middle East, for rabid anti-Muslim views.
How many " Hate Lovecraft " horror fiction fans are even moderate socialists ?
