Can the " long view of history " - a scientific theory of the
history of humanity - throw some light on the political crisis of the
Democratic Party ? Lately I have been pondering the thoughts of the
ancient Roman philosopher Lucretius -who had a nightmare vision of the
origin of the human race -long before Darwin :
WE- Civilization- emerged from the animal world after a terrible struggle for existence. But everything changes - no human social order is forever.
Lucretius would not give his blessing to American capitalism - as moribund as ancient slavery.
