Beyond the emotions aroused by partisan politics there is the
intellectual need for a scientific theory of human history and of human
society.
You cannot justify exploiting capitalism in the same way that
religious obscurantists for centuries justified slavery, feudalism, and
the divine right of kings.
A political system evolves more or less consistent with the economic system. Democratic socialists deny any intrinsic need for a capitalist exploiting class.
They challenge the moral legitimacy of even " legitimate " wealth - mostly from a secular humanist point of view.
