The fundamental premise of democratic socialism

The fundamental premise of democratic socialism is that the ruling class has no rational claim on the surplus value created in productive activity-including " intellectual " labor-by the workers of the world.

Socialists have always denied the legitimacy of even " legitimate " wealth. That goes back to the famous " Communist Manifesto " - which I studied in high school.

It boils down to who controls the police. The police can protect socialist " property " as well as they now protect capitalist private property.
