I can't believe that intelligent people lose sleep at night worried
about encounters with the trans-gendered in public restrooms. With the
exception of hopeless exhibitionists there will be no psychological
trauma.
The big problem as I see it with public restrooms in America is the lack of them. There is complete contempt for the human body needs in downtown Providence, for example. And you read a sign with a hostile edge : NO PUBLIC REST ROOM in the window of a private business establishment. I will bet that the gay bars here are at least more " user friendly " with their rest rooms.
Even the sociologist Ashley Montagu wrote about a dearth of " pissoirs " in American cities- for him a sign of a low level of civilization.
I hope this " identity politics " issue does not become louder than Bernie Sanders' call for " political revolution ".
I recall 60s cult radical Jerry Rubin shouting : " abolish pay public toilets ! " . But nowadays you cannot even find one.
