Valid mental health warning on " pornography " ?

We on the left are all too prone to laugh at these favorite " conservative " issues- like pornography. I don't believe in the insane government " war on drugs " .
So I am not about to bless any sanctimonious war on still legal pornography. In Orwell's " 1984 " there was the sexually oppressive " Anti-Sex League ". Julia , Winston Smith's girlfriend, was an unpromising member.

Nevertheless ,I have read books written by psychiatrists on " pornography addiction ". I have concluded that it is not good for your mental or moral health. Even if you are not religious ,this stuff is toxic and can undermine your sense of decency. It can undermine your creative intelligence.

Only rarely does cheap pornography rise to the level of art. Women tend to be more disgusted by it than men. Perhaps a feminine " instinct " tells them " life "- in all its aspects- is sacred.

Was Orwell's " 1984 " Big Brother a prude ?
