ALL the Republican candidates for president are showing " un-Christian " and very un-Socialist contempt and hostility toward the wretched Mexican immigrants - many of them Roman Catholic ( an additional reason for the Pope's solicitude ).
Rather than showing " compassionate conservatism " the Republican presidential candidates- with Donald Trump the leader of the pack-are showing their Ayn Rand profile described in " A Life of Contempt ".
Bernie Sanders, a very compassionate, socialist Jew, understands the ugly side of American capitalism - as do other, more militant, democratic socialists.
The democratic socialists also have a deeper understanding of racism than the neo-Democrats like Governor Gina Raimondo and Hillary Clinton.
Rather than protecting us - and even His Holiness - from deranged ISIS Donald Trump and most politically ambitious Republicans are spreading Islamophobia - which breeds angry terrorists.
The New Colonialism is also breeding Middle East terrorists. Pope Francis has also been outspoken about this.
Of course , a Catholic social conscience is superfluous in any decent humanist.
