I agree completely with S.T.Joshi 's view of Lovecraft's " racism "

Fantasy Award retires H.P. Lovecraft bust       ["The decision seems to me a craven yielding to the worst sort of political correctness and an explicit acceptance of the crude, ignorant, and tendentious slanders against Lovecraft propagated by a small but noisy band of agitators," Joshi's letter stated. ]
I completely agree with S.T. Joshi here. How many of Lovecraft 's detractors rise to his level of social conscience in 1936 when he describes himself as a socialist , but pleased with the re-election of FDR ? To be sure, no malignant racism here. Socialism is indeed a cure for racism.
For me the LETTERS of H.P. Lovecraft offered moral guidance in a cold, indifferent universe. Better than the phony moral superiority of ILLIBERAL " political correctness ".

Lovecraft's letters influenced my personal philosophy of life
