Always dangerous-not a few drownings there-is the Conimicut Point
sandbar in Warwick. A WPRI report( July22.2013 ) : " locals say the sand
goes from solid to quick sand " in no time. Another near horror story
there: " Police had nothing but praise for bystanders who took it upon
themselves to rescue five people from the treacherous tide at Conimicut
on Sunday afternoon."
I always found the beach at Conimicut had an abandoned, eerie ,lonely look. But the surrounding view is far more spectacular than " commercial " Oakland Beach just a few miles away.
On a recent walk along Conimicut Point shore my lady friend and I found a dying crab hopelessly entangled in fishing line. We tossed the pathetic creature back into deeper water, seeing that it would be baked alive in the hot summer sun .Later that day I learned on a PETA website how crabs and lobsters are " processed " in Maine. The big business is crueler than indifferent Nature.
But Mother Nature ( read the news ) is getting revenge.
