Gay Plato in " Laws " does not consider gay marriage

In the long history of the human race why was it suddenly perceived in the USA in this century that " the right to marry was fundamental " ? In democratic( ? ) Athens there was a thriving gay community -led by WISDOM personified, the philosopher Plato. In his " Laws " he makes no mention of his right to marry Socrates.
In truth, marriage is an institution that has evolved. LEGAL marriage in modern times is tied up with capitalist property rights. Nothing to get angry about. But also, no cause for sentimental slobbering over irrelevant " happiness " and " true love ".
Catholic Bishop Tobin is just being consistent with the faith here. Don't turn him into an ogre of " hate ".
