The de-institutionalization of the mentally ill was a crime against
humanity in this country more than 50 years ago. Whole books have been
written on this subject by dedicated mental health professionals. Now I
read that the Eleanor Slater Hospital is over-funded ? So that
pernicious Ayn Rand clique here ( " Freedom and Prosperity " for whom ? )
is perhaps whispering that this mental hospital should be PRIVATIZED
and run for PROFIT ? That will improve life for the severely mentally
ill ? So rather than having an overtime budget problem, it would be
better to have no staff at all at times ? And up go the profits . Into
the ground go the long term mentally ill.
