Not living in the Age of Faith

George Orwell had some interesting insight on not living in the Age of Faith : " One cannot have any worthwhile picture of the future unless one realizes how much we have lost by the decay of Christianity ". In Orwell's nightmare book " 1984 " what has been lost is the human soul.
" Imagine a boot stamping on a human face forever ". Did not a character in Dostoevsky's " The Possessed " say " if God does not exist , then everything is permitted " ? Today I suspect that our ruling class are the true " New Atheists ". For them indeed everything is permitted. And EGO, SELF is absolute. No place for divinity here. Just Ayn Rand's " Virtue of Selfishness ". There still remains that mysterious Invisible Hand.
