Young students should be introduced to Landlord Studies with the black poet Langston Hughes poem " The Ballad of the Landlord ". Then they might easily side with tenant power vs. Landlord rights. One reason for homelessness in Rhode Island is unregulated rents. Are slum landlords also the " worthy rich ", proud members of our natural Meritocracy ?
Making money the easy way-through exploitation of helpless poor people- can unleash murderous, incendiary impulses. ALL this bum landlord's property should be handed over to the state. And let others like him be warned. The state is more likely to set reasonable rents.And not set its own property ablaze.
