Should Houston Mayor oversee church sermons?

Now I really wonder what country I'm living in. Headline: "City of Houston demands pastors turn over sermons." Any sermons dealing with homosexuality, gender identity or the city's first openly lesbian mayor, Annise Parker.

The American Left should not turn a deaf ear to numerous complaints of violations of religious freedom coming from various conservative sources. Rather than focus on CLASS issues and economic justice, the neo-Democrats have been obsessed for decades now with the petty-bourgeois culture wars: gays and feminists seeking the nth dimension of identity liberation. Almost like McCarthy era Red Hunters, always sniffing out and unmasking individual "bigots"- and ruining public reputations. How can you ever forgive a RACIST, a SEXIST, or a HOMOPHOBE ?

Are phony "liberal" fanatics who would have devout Catholics spit on the crucifix any different from Dark Age Catholic fanatics who would have devout Jews kiss the crucifix?

What does this bizarre bunch of God Haters have in common with old fashioned Socialist-Humanism?

Let me just give the example of ex-Trotskyist Christopher Hitchens, author of "Religion Poisons Everything": As an obscure young man he found capitalism the root of all evil. As a drunken older man he distinguished himself as an obnoxious God Hater. Hating organized religion brought him more fame and fortune than loving the proles ever could.

A committed socialist will only attack organized religion when it is openly supporting class oppression. How can any politically literate person not see how passionately Pope Francis, just one example, has attacked the cruelty and the spiritual emptiness of modern global capitalism? This holy man is not our friend and ally?
