Rev. Ahlburn will be missed

His last " sermon" on your religion page ( Oct.16) was his most brilliant : " Shouldn't religion's goal be to ditch itself? ".

Did not Lenin also say this of the State ? But human nature defeats us on all fronts. And I guess humanity is as grand its failures as in its success.

Did not Voltaire himself think : " If God did not exist, it would be necessary to invent Him " ?

God bless you, Reverend Thomas E. Ahlburn. You must finally understand that everything is for the best in the best of all possible world. You were a pilot of a " Challenger " adventure and discovered -too late - that God was not your co-pilot.

As you plunge into the Abyss reflect on your own wisdom :" Any religion lacking an escape clause is a bad religion ".

In the End the only consolation may be a Schubert sonata.
