TV remake of " The Music Man " almost a dud . Robert Preston owns that role

I just watched this remake of the classic " The Music Man ", the original with Robert Preston and Shirley Jones. I could not agree more with the above review. Preston and Jones OWN these roles.
The cast of " The Music Man " remake are not bad at all. But watching the whole of it I felt it was a sad artistic mistake. Even the music was off. My own rule for movie reviews : if I can't bond with any of the characters in the first ten minutes , the movie is a dud. For decades I have been disappointed in TV and movie films. Where is the HEART ? Where is the SOUL ?

[New 'Music Man' Plays a Different Note

Matthew Broderick adds boyish charm to the lead role in this version that tries to be less stagy than the 1962 film.

Anybody who grew up with the larger-than-life image of Robert Preston as the charming con man Professor Harold Hill in the 1962 film version of Meredith Willson's classic "The Music Man," may be in for a shock with AABC's new three-hour version that premieres Sunday night on "The Wonderful World of Disney."
Starring as Hill in this new adaptation is two-time Tony Award winner Matthew Broderick ("Brighton Beach Memoirs," "How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying") who is about 180 degrees in demeanor and singing style from the exuberant Preston. Broderick's Hill comes across as a grown-up but still boyish Ferris Bueller type -- a quiet, low-keyed charmer who enchants the children of a staid Iowa town, circa 1912, and wins the heart of its librarian.]
Even talented actors and actresses : please, PUT A LITTLE LOVE IN YOUR HEART.
" If I loved you, words wouldn't come in an easy way " ... ( Shirley Jones in " Carousel ". )
Phoniness is the death of art !
