The sad situation cannot be helped by what the late great science
writer Isaac Asimov( who taught biochemistry at a Boston medical school )
called " the cult of ignorance "in the United States.
How can any first
class public education system want kids to learn LESS math ?
Today's
personal computers were also his dream for making self-education all the
more important - and interesting. We should be living in the golden age
of public education.
