Henry Shelton -famous poor people advocate in Rhode Island- has died

RIP Henry Shelton

[ Bob Kerr, the longtime Journal columnist and a contributor to Rhode
Island Public Radio, said that in his more than 40 years in journalism
in the Ocean State, ``there is no one I have respected more in the fight
for social justice.’’]

When I think of Henry Shelton I am reminded of the title of a book on left socialist writer George Orwell : " Fugitive From the Camp of Victory ".

I briefly worked for his organization WAGE - Workers Associated for Guaranteed Employment . Of course, even the most powerful labor organizations cannot guarantee full employment in capitalist America.

Sad to say all these " liberal " Democrats paying homage to the life and work of Catholic Worker inspired Henry Shelton are leading the attack on the working class , poor and elderly in Rhode Island. No surprise that the Hillary Clinton political machine was humiliated by " socialist " Democrat Bernie Sanders in the Democratic primary last April.

The present crop of " liberal " Democrats cannot even guarantee senior citizens the old RIPTA " entitlement ". They are far to the right of Pope Francis with his scathing attacks on the capitalist way of life.

It means so much to the truly down and out ( even in Paris and London ) to have a VOICE.
Thank you for your meaningful life, Henry Shelton. I was a student at St. Michael's in Providence when they christened the St. Michael statue there in front of the Oxford St. church.( circa 1960 ).
