" Our dog Max " - Your Turn - Cranston

Sorry to read about Colleen Hutchin's dog Max - a hit and run

    victim somewhere on Cranston St. ( page C 5 Jan. 29 )

Colleen needed $250.00 right away just to bring Max for X-rays

at a veterinary emergency room . She says Max will need expensive

surgery for an injured pelvic bone.

I recall my heartbroken sister in law and my niece, Sue and Tara of

Scituate , R.I. going through a similar ordeal when their Alaskan huskie

Megan was hit by a car and required hip surgery. I recall that an animal

humane society was kind enough to help with the bill. ( I'll get the name )

Giving the guilty driver the benefit of the doubt, let me ask :

Just what should one do when do after injuring a dog in the street or on

a highway ? How soon will the police or the animal rescue league respond

to a call for help ? Most people might assume that only the luckiest of

animals is not doomed after being seriously injured on the street .

Also I must ask why animal emergency rooms must be so mercenary.

Can't they offer the pet's family a reasonable installment plan ?

Care FIRST, bill later ! Hospitals for people might also heed this

    suggestion .

Too Much Homework ?

I just read " Too Much Homework " ( Time, Jan.25 ). The

mindless drudgery of school " work " was at the very top of

the list of things the 60s kids rebelled against. I remember

agreeing with British philosopher Bertrand Russell who thought

that most schools were designed to crush the human spirit and

destroy the ability and the will to think independently - to

be CREATIVE . He said that school destroys CURIOSITY in all

but the most gifted and above all reinforces social hierarchy

    values.

School mass produces the stultified , repressed personality

in the interest of the capitalist social order.

Above all what our society still needs is millions

of breeding  drudges conditioned to DELAYED SATISFACTION .

         Happiness postponed ...FOREVER !

No wonder we reward with lifelong job security teachers

with the deadly " gift " of breathing boredom on every

    subject .

I still cherish the GREAT REBELLION of 1960s .

Let teens vote !

I just heard on the radio that interest in politics is at an all

time low among the nation's youth. It is hard to imagine 60s kids

being indifferent to the impending " crisis of legitimacy " in our

    government.

Should seedy and reactionary old men like Henry Hyde decide the

fate of the nation behind august but CLOSED Senate doors ?

But we must face this bleak truth : too often the MAJORITY

prefers to just sleep through a political crisis. Millions of

    citizens never bother to vote.

I think there is a sound argument for making voting compulsory

in a society that strives to be democratic.

And I also think there is no sound argument for denying teenagers

the right to vote. I recall nervously following the Cuban missile crisis

    in 1962 -when I was only 15.

The experience of my life tells me that the virtue of CONCERN -

and intellectual alertness -hardly improve with age.

Should teenagers have the right to vote ? What do THEY think ?

Carothers cons the brothers

I just read U.R.I. president Robert L. Carother's column in

the Jan. 25 Providence Journal : " A college education is within

reach " . I am not impressed with this bureaucrat's mind. Most

kids who apply for college want that degree badly but only a

    passionate minority actually want EDUCATION.

They kids see the college degree as a passport to higher

position in the social pecking order. Can the blue collar working

class -as a whole -  " degree " itself out of wage slavery ? Who

would do society's dirty work ? Who will empty bed pans in

nursing homes and take out our garbage and move the furniture

    of the socially mobile ?

Carothers is in reality selling a daydream to thousands of

poor kids. If they should get that bachelor degree, is a good

    job then " within reach " ?

As long as society is stratified, the majority of working

class people will be living on daydreams AND buying lottery tickets.

Kids who value an education as end in itself ( knowledge may

not lead to SUCCESS but ignorance guarantees failure ) will be

less bitter when REALITY hits them . Their most likely future :

a spouse, a family, a mortgage, and a rather humdrum job -whatever

    their academic credentials.

But nevertheless I wish higher education in Rhode Island

and Robert Carothers great success !

A hail Monica pass ?

If you want a clue to the GOP mentality right now, think

of Hitler in his bunker. Perhaps desperation and consulting of horoscopes

explains the latest " hail Monica " move. Never in recent history has

a political party been more out of touch with the soul of the nation

-which is magnanimous, not cramped and hateful.

You could say that our president is indeed a victim of HATE

CRIME. No wonder blacks are so sympathetic to him !

But the politically damned cannot help themselves. By the next

election day only the most die hard, reactionary eccentrics will identify

    themselves as Republicans.

The Republican Party will not simply be defeated everywhere in the

United States. It will be obliterated !

Remember the Whig party ? The Republican Party * ( see footnote )

Castor Oil for Anal Retentive ?

" Know thyself", Socrates advised us. Says Republican Chris

DePino : " impeachment is the castor oil of politics ...our party

    has to swallow it ".

The people told the Republican " lynch Clinton " mob last

    Election Day : " You're all full of s**t ! "

Indeed if there is a more ANAL RETENTIVE crowd in the whole

country than those Republican congressmen who voted to impeach

our president, I guess the American Psychiatric Association will

be interested to know about them.

Castor oil for the Republicans .. . and  baby oil for

the Democrats . Baby oil is a lot less unctuous !

Welcome to R.I.- Public Radio

Your editorial this morning " NPR outreach " is good news for

perhaps very many R.I. radio listeners : To " access high quality

    public radio broadcasts.. " - what a relief !

By default my radio is on WLKW 550 when I awake in the morning.

What utter monotony and lack of programming imagination! I said to

myself yesterday morning :" If I hear the pop song " Fernando " ( " the

world's greatest music " )  one more time, I'll pull my enviable mop

of very thick hair out " .

Radio STILL has great potential- not recognized by capitalists

with a lot of capital but no caput. ( Latin - head )

You can LISTEN to radio even while you work -and wherever you are.

Is ANYBODY listening to me ?

James Dean: " A man has a CHOICE ! "

I read with much interest your Lifebeat article this

morning :  " Why do so few people take the blame for their

    actions ? "  ( Providence Journal, Jan.20 , page E1 ) .

There is a picture of Dan White, " who assassinated San Francisco

Supervisor Harvey Milk and Mayor George Moscone in 1979 " and

" blamed junk food addiction for his rage ".

The rule of law - indeed civilization itself - is based

not on the myth of free will but on the paradox of it : Science-

in the final analysis - seems to reject it. Perhaps " Twinkies "

can account for a cold blooded murder, just as surely as a

lack of iodine can turn a normal child into a mentally deficient

    adult.

Free Will presumes that there is a divine source for the

moral law. Yet Science suggests that " In the beginning " there

was only a very restless nothingness.

It would be social suicide to deny Free Will ,just as

it may be psychological suicide to completely deny God .

Clearly every sane human being must ACT as if he were

truly free. One of the greatest scenes in  James Dean's acting

career is when he reminds his dying father at the end of " East

of Eden " of his own words to his sons : " A man has a CHOICE ! "

The power of choice makes possible new beginnings. A

writer said of Steinbeck's  novel : "  We hear in the novel

the collective voice of the people bemoaning changes brought by

the end of the 1880s and a desire for the century to end so

that the country can begin anew ".

" A man will have clean hands once we get the lid slammed

    on that stinking century ".

           Happy New Year 2000 !

                  ( quotes from " Explicator " , Spring- 1997 )

I'll Take the Back of the Bus !

I am FREE, WHITE, and well past 21  . Yesterday - Martin Luther

King Day - was a dismal holiday for me here in Warwick. Why are

libraries closed on the very days that most working people can

fully appreciate them ?  Is reading a book a dishonorable way to

spend this oh so politically correct holiday ?

Not being a car owner like most white devils, I would have

been pleased to ride even the back of the bus yesterday !

After 8 o'clock at night, it seems, Warwick residents- not

classy enough to own a car - are banned from Buddy Cianci's

Renaissance City, Providence , Rhode Island.

Also , I guess that Providence " types " are not welcome

in Warwick - past curfew ?

Black and whites lacking in CLASS really do have a lot in

common. So why can't WE at least get along ? We can ride the back

of the  American social " bus " happily together !

" Show more empathy for victims of bias " - Peter Denison 's

letter in the Providence Journal, Jan. 18 - was friendly toward real

victims of racism and , I suppose, appropriate for Martin Luther King

Day. But it was still muddled. Wrote Dennison : " It is impossible for

white people to really understand how they ( minority groups ) feel. "

If understanding is IMPOSSIBLE, then how do we arrive at Martin

    Luther King day ?

To say that understanding of ANYBODY is impossible is to forget

that the very essence of HUMANITY  everywhere is LANGUAGE - the ability

to communicate not only our crude, animal needs but our very souls, our

    hearts and minds.

If Black authors really thought that it was IMPOSSIBLE for white

people to understand them, they would just give up writing.

All the complaints of racism -real or bogus - are based on the

assumption of empathy in the vast majority of whites.

The notion of a permanent state of misunderstanding between the

races is the ideological excuse for a permanent Civil Rights bureaucracy,

consisting of permanent CRANKS - who have no vested interest in racial

    harmony .

None of the letters Denison cites on The Good 5 cent Cigar

controversy struck me as racist or malicious , or even as offensive,

But then I am WHITE and it is just impossible for me to understand.

And in response to his question, I DO support the rights of

flag burners and gays, and I even support the vile anti -abortion Web

site, " The Nuremberg Files ".

I support the right of the Providence Journal to publish those

letters he considers so offensive and " racist ".

Quickly re-reading his letter, I must ask : Is Peter B. Dennison

a member of a minority group or just an extraordinary WHITE person- gifted

    with EMPATHY ?

Every Day " Ground Hog Day " ?

I just heard on the radio that Boris Yeltsin is BACK in the

hospital. Is Ground Hog Day in January or is it every day ? There is

something VERY STRANGE about the news for YEARS now. Nothing ever gets

resolved. The same headlines, repeating the same phrases day after day.

After a while it all begins to seem like a drunk's dream !

In Rhode Island it seems that the very same people DIE every

week. Tonight I expect to hear that my religious fanatic brother is

going to visit the La Salette shrine - for the 1,000,000 time . And

this morning , I expect to read an editorial in the Providence Journal

pointing out Bill Clinton's despicable lack of character ... " lying

under oath ... high crimes and misdemeanors  ".

The stock market will be UP 100 points or DOWN 100 points. Another

Rhode Island politician will be going to jail or leaving jail.

People will write letters asking : " Is God there ? "

I have a new theory about God - far from that dreary atheism : God

got bored with this whole mess a long time ago !

Scott Molloy - labor faker ?

I agree with Mark Patinkin's suggestion in his column today

that the quality of INTELLIGENCE is not incompatible with unionism .

However, I would hesitate to suggest that hundreds of striking

nurses at Women & Infants are lacking in in this quality.

Labor professor, Scott Molloy, made an ass of himself when he

said : " Like who cares about 200 Archie Bunkers out on a picket line ? "

      ( Jan 17, Providence Sunday Journal -page A 24 )

I hope that crack does not sum up Molloy's attitude toward the

vast majority of blue collar unionized workers -who are NOT hateful,

reactionary bigots. Did he see his unionized bus drivers as Archie Bunker

    types ?

Perhaps one John L.Lewis is worth 1000 phony labor professors.

After reading Molloy's " Archie Bunker " garbage, I might even prefer

    a REAL Jimmy Hoffa !

Say hi to the URI JANITORS for me, Scott .

Free Speech and " Nuremberg Files " Web site

I just read the front page article in today's New York Times-

" Anti-Abortion Site On Web Has Ignited Free Speech Debate ". There

is no doubt in my mind that " The Nuremberg Files " creators are

more like the Nazis than the assorted medical doctors willing to

perform abortion for any woman freely seeking this still legal

    service.

But I would not oppose their pathological Web site - with

its " hit lists ". There are now MILLIONS of Web sites . The

government should just forget about challenging the very existence

    of ANY them .

The law should not deal with states of mind, just with

criminal deeds. Perhaps such an ugly site is a " healthy " outlet

for violent opinions that demand expression.

What Presidents of the United States have observed is true

for the rest of us : If someone is absolutely determined to kill

or harm us - and is also willing to take big personal risks doing

it - there is just not much we can do about it .

There has been very little psychoanalysis of anti-abortion

fanatics. Modern psychiatry - with its dumb enthusiasm for " miracle

drugs " - is ignoring the human soul.

A hint at the mind of an anti-abortion fanatic : a

man whom I know very well -who frequently ranted and raved about

the EVIL of abortion - suddenly cracked up one dreary January

day... he was found naked in his oldest brother's bedroom, curled

up IN THE FETAL POSITION ! His sixteen year old daughter was

pregnant . He is being " treated " with lithium, but the drug

does nothing to cure his very sick soul .

RIPTA - Good News for Warwick !

A front page article by Ralph Busby in the Jan.14 Warwick

Beacon -" New RIPTA routes to enhance city service - "  reports

good news for Warwick's bus riders : after 35 years of public

transportation inflexibility, a  recognition that " things need

    to change dramatically ".

With an aging population, all Rhode Island should want

to support RIPTA efforts to improve, in every which way, public

transportation here. We just can't have a half a million senior

citizens driving around in cars all day ! It ain't SAFE !

Although I have a valid drivers license -and an excellent

driving record - I choose not to own my own car. I share Ralph

Nader's view of this twentieth century nemesis.( What can

be more un-American than car hating ? )

So if I get people like myself elected to high office,

you'll all be enjoying the benefits of socialized medicine in

your old age AND be riding the bus to the pharmacy .

One suggestion for RIPTA service in Warwick : Why

is downtown off limits for riders after 8 o'clock at night

and completely off limits on Sunday ? ( downtown Providence )

                     Forget all that fuss

                        Just take the bus !

Things we lose sleep over

I'm half asleep myself when I hear on the radio this important

news: " Henry Hyde says he will lose sleep if his Bill Clinton

prosecutors do not deliver a 4 star performance in a Senate Trial.

Does this old Republican fart ever lose sleep over HOMELESSNESS

in this country ? Or obscene gap between the rich and the poor ? Or

the harm done by the cigarette companies ? Or the millions of WORKING

people without health insurance ? Or the shameless neglect of the

    mentally ill "

Worry not Henry over losing sleep: You will soon be sleeping

    the sleep of the JUST!

I wrote to The Warwick Beacon about a Republican candidate

for city council who seemed to be losing sleep over school lunch

    programs . He LOST !

Joe Mollicone and the ACI Redemption

Good morning , Bob. I am no more inclined to shout " Free

Ed " than I was to shout " Free Charlie Manson " in the Golden

        Age of Protest .

But Ed can least find some inspiration in the Stephen King

movie " Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption ".

You note that Ed is imprisoned with guys who never

buy life insurance . A key to " success " in  prison is to

make yourself USEFUL . Ed should consider giving his fellow

        felons FREE ADVICE.

In the meantime I will try -through my Sicilian connections

on Federal Hill to send him a rubber chisel and a large poster

        of Joe Mollicone.

A "concomitant " of haste

Good morning , fellow progressives. It is hardly important, but

just for the record I misspelled " concomitant " in a letter I

recently sent you. Misspelling is often just a CONCOMITANT of

        haste.

My working class perspective is a CONCOMITANT of my

        working class INCOME.

As Karl Marx observed somewhere : " A man thinks differently

in a palace than he does in a hut ".

By the way , the striking workers at Women & Infants Hospital

can now collect weekly unemployment benefits ( unless there is

        some appeal complication ).

I was very inspired by a pro-union article by former Providence

College vice-president, Father Lennon, that appeared in the Catholic

        weekly " The Providence Visitor "  ( Jan 7 ) . I hope the People's

Weekly World will be able to reprint. Needless to say the good

priest would not describe himself as a flaming Marxist !

But for the working class of America, there is indeed STRENGTH

        IN UNITY .

Etymology in the news

A hospital area is no place for any kind of violence -no

matter what the provocation. If there is one place where people

should understand the preciousness and fragility of life, it is

on the grounds of the hospital ( as well as inside! )

I completely support the cause of 1199 at Women & Infants

Hospital. But I urge the hot heads to cool it. I believe the

    public will support them.

Anyway an article on the strike violence has an item

    that would interest amateur etymologists ( Jan. 12, page B3 ) :

Mary Sousa was , a mail courier, was surrounded by a crowd

of pickets the first day of the strike. " Someone also threw a

rock at her window ", the paper says. She described herself

as being " totally PETRIFIED " .  As petrified as a kidney

    stone, I guess.

On " Sixty Minutes " last Sunday there was a story

about a very dignified and intelligent black man -living

in exile - because way back in 1960 boorish draft board

officials just would not address HIM as MISTER.

According to the dictionary " mister " is just a variation

of MASTER  " reflecting reduced stress "

You can see why resentful MASTERS would hesitate to call

an offspring of black slaves, MISTER !

But was all this worth a lifetime of exile ?

An Oliver Stone perspective

I just read Faith McNulty 's letter " Assassination " in the

Providence Journal (Jan.12 ) . She sees President Clinton as the victim

of a legal " assassination " process. And when it is all over " we'll

probably never know " the true nature of the conspiracy against the

modest democracy that we still have.

My father was impressed by a mini-series that appeared on TV

some years ago : " Captains and Kings " The theme was that a handful of

very powerful and wealthy individuals decide -in the long run - the fate

    of nations.

American sociologists rarely talk about the American ruling class.

THEY were real enough to Papa Joe Kennedy. He tried to enter this circle

without the proper credentials . He paid for the family's remarkable

    success.

Today Patrick Kennedy is loathed by THEM . Looking at their

murderous henchmen in the government, can the REAL THING be  far

    from consideration  ? I wonder .

The Cyber-Pamphleteer

The movie Doctor Zhivago begins with " crazy " Pasha - the

future Red Guard general - distributing seemingly pathetic

leaflets in Moscow Square. The Czarist secret police are unamused :

they confiscate his leaflets. But when the " pigs " are out of

sight, he finds more leaflets hidden in his winter coat.

         " They'll sing in tune after the revolution ! " a sinister

    character jokes .

Most Americans will at least admire Pasha's FREE SPEECH

effort -if not its future consequences.

Pasha would have loved to have what I have for

FREE - The Ocean State Free Net and ubiquitous  public library

    computers.

I am working on the concept of the " Cyber- Pamphleteer ".

I  do electronically what Pasha attempted to do in the heroic,

but old fashioned. And I do it with a thousand times more

    efficiency.

When I wish to communicate  a brief opinion - which

guarantees reading - I select HUNDREDS of OSFN e-mail addresses

at random. It takes only minutes to MASS MAIL !

Often I get immediate feedback : " Don't bother me today.

    I'm too busy !  "  Or " Viva La Revolucion !  "

I 'm not exactly The New York Times in credibility. But

nothing to sniff at either. I think !

How I aborted my nephew - ( from TRUE CONFESSIONS )

My brother John is beginning to feel ripe for Fatherhood in

his late thirties. On my mothers birthday he shows up at the house

with a potential candidate for mother of his kid. But I was not

impressed for a number of reasons and big brother's opinion carries

    a lot of weight :

I called him the very next day with this advice : " Forget

about it, John . She SMOKES !

THE REVEREND Ahlburn?

I enjoy the Rev. Thomas E. Ahlburn 's columns that appear

now and then in your Saturday Religion section. And I wish he had an

E-mail address. I AGREE with the man .Yet he annoys me, because in a

way he a bit of a charlatan himself: If God is simply not a REALITY for

him, then why not drop the REVEREND Thomas farce ? Is not his First

Unitarian Church really just a social club for respectable people

who are too sophisticated to worship God but also too sophisticated

NOT to worship middle class success ?

Is the REVEREND Ahlburn the ideal Sunday morning preacher

for non-believing  East Side chiropractors ?

Does his column - which I admire - belong on the Religion page ?

Bean counters spit on " miracle of life " (to Bob Kerr @Projo.com)

Thanks for another quality column Bob. Those bean counters

spit on the " miracle of life ". I just hope those Women and Infants

can collect weekly unemployment benefits. And I hope the strike can

be settled with a minimum of groveling on the part of the harried

    workers.

I know it sounds " crackpot " to many still, but I say nationalize

the entire health care industry . Take the BUSINESS out of health care !

Have a HEALTHY day  Bob ( with health care workers on strike )

Safe Chemistry Class

If anybody observed me a couple of weeks ago in front of

a computer screen at main branch of Cranston Public Library, they

might have concluded that I was  thrilled by violent and colorful

explosions.  Did I miss my true vocation ?

Actually I was fascinated by the computer program, " Chemistry

Set. "   All the chemistry you never learned in high school or

college made more playful and a lot safer.

A lot of time is wasted in school chemistry labs just

making a mess, fearing the Big Bang right there, and your mind

freezing with the fear of  appearing an inept dummkopf.

The Chemistry Set accelerates the learning process. For

example , the student can instantly view in rotating three

dimensions any molecule being discussed. In a click one gets

important data - boiling point, freezing point, solubility,

preparation and uses, etc - on hundreds of elements and

    compounds.

In a click one gets summary biographys of important

chemists  like Lavoisier and Cavendish .

I just wish there were many more everyday experiments

on film. Girls who are shy about making a mess of themselves

now have no excuse not to learn a little basic chemistry.

Will the alarm go off again as the strange man with the

mysterious black bag exits the library ?

Dave gets A

Good morning Dave . I just read your column . I would give

it A+ for rhetorical respectability- and considering other columns on

this divisive issue - give A for class.

I can accept  " high misdemeanor " now that the Senate trial is

a reality the nation must live with.

But I would VOTE -if I could - with your favorite Rhode Island

politician, The Honorable Patrick Kennedy . ( if he could too )

What could ruin President Clinton instantly would be Hillary

herself publicly humiliating him : " You're a liar and a cheat and

    I want the House ! "

Then it would become clear that the issue is now BEYOND the

laws of the land. The President is ALSO  the chief public relations

officer of American society. He would be immediately crippled in THIS

function if Hillary turned on him .

That is the ONE circumstance in which a Clinton resignation -

whatever his legal position - would be advised by his most loyal

    supporters.

I hope the country will get over this crap !

Have a nice day  - ron

comment from Dave Brussat

Ron - Thanks for your note. If I were the Democratic Party, I would be
bullshit at Clinton, who has veered to the right, beyond center, and then
plunged the party into humiliation. I hope you'll enjoy our editorial about
Patrick in tomorrow's paper (unless it's pulled!).

Can DNA locate pharaoh's own ?

There are plenty of fairly well preserved Egyptian mummies, already

objects of medical research . Many of these mummies were the most

exalted rulers of their day , a few vainglorious conquerors .And many

of them reproduced royally; one pharaoh, I read, fathered nearly 100

    children.

I wonder if modern " miracle " DNA testing of the present Egyptian

population - especially the people whose features recall the ancient

Egyptian as pictured on those colossal buildings near the Valley of

the Dead - can establish definite kinship  with old dynasties.

I don't know what good would come from such an ambitious

genealogical project : Could some obscure Egyptian citizen claim

King Tut's wealth ? Perhaps there would be a new version of " The Mummy's

    Curse " !

Now if some of those mummies can be cloned ?

Dr. Freud asked it too ! (to Gail Ciampa @ ProJo.com)

Dear Gail,  your exuberant column today reminded me of a conclusion

I arrived at decades ago: There is no passion in the world that can

    rival MOTHERHOOD .

Dr. Freud asked this rather sexist question : " But just WHAT does

    a woman want? "

What she wants Doctor is a BABY, preferably " the most perfect girl

in the whole wide world ".

And a few other things to make the joy complete !

                 Have a nice day   ron

Jeff Jacoby's drool

Boston Globe columnist, Jeff Jacoby, must fancy himself

    - madly - as a patient conservative educator desperately trying to

wisen up misguided and oh so HATEFUL liberals. He thinks it has been

a banner year for Liberal Hate.

I am more than willing to learn useful things from conservatives

and they have the perfectly human right to try to modify  or change

my opinions.  After all, I never stop READING them !

But on the Clinton impeachment  controversy I have read very few

intellectually respectable articles or columns written by self -described

conservatives. They invariably indulge in repetitious drivel, the same

phrases over and over again - repeated with as much subtlety as a sledge

hammer on a stone wall:  " obstruction of justice ... lying under

oath... no honor or integrity . "

This style of arguing is more worth of the Nazis under Hitler.

For Jacoby to talk about  Liberal Hate is lot like Hitler talking

about Jewish insolence . ( more worthy )

Would God lie to us ?

I guess there is no fool like a fool for God ! Dean Merrill,

vice president of the International Bible Society, wrote President

Clinton - who at least tells the truth most of the time - that he

betrayed his own leadership of the country when he lied about the Monica

    naughtiness.

Mr. Merrill must take the WORD OF GOD very seriously . But

God must be a more brazen liar than Bill Clinton - if HE is the source,

the AUTHORITY behind the Good Book .

If lies were made of dynamite , the Holy Bible would blow up a

whole city every time a credulous believer opened it !

Let us pray that the crackpot Religious Right does not drive a

democratically elected president , the Honorable Bill Clinton, from high

    office.

The Truth shall KEEP us free !

The last time I was inside the Nathanael Greene Homestead -

    recently vandalized by scumbags ( Providence Journal, Jan.4 , page C6 ) -

it was , I recall very well, as guest of young Thomas Greene , the

descendant of the famous general, second in command to George Washington

during the Revolutionary War. At least a spark of Nathanael , I see,

survives in Thomas , now president of the homestead's board of directors :

" Those robbers better thank their lucky stars they're not within

    arm's reach . "

This same Thomas Greene was a very well liked member of our

Conversational Spanish class at Community College of Rhode Island . It

was taught by Olga Ingelse ( forgive any misspelling ) . The class

members went their separate ways about 20 years ago. But we spent

the last day as guests of Thomas Greene at the old homestead of

the illustrious General Nathanael Green . It was a very pleasant

    end to Conversational Spanish.

I recall Thomas telling me after an amateurish " lecture ",

that I had some flair for dramatics.

Without any dramatics, I hope people will donate generously

to make up for the $1500.00 stolen in tools  that were needed to

keep up the homestead. History belongs to everybody !

"High crimes and misdemeanors" ?

In the Providence Journal, Jan. 2, in the Commentary page

vociferous " Voices around the nation "  continue to refer to

the " President's lack of integrity and honor " and how he  " must

be tried for his high crimes and misdemeanors ".

Do these people know something that ordinary American citizens-

not lacking in integrity and honor - do not know or refuse to know ?

Isn't even a president entitled to a fair trial in which " high

crimes and misdemeanors " can be established beyond a shadow of a doubt ?

Does anybody get to serve on a jury in this country who loudly

proclaims his contempt for the accused , his predetermined conclusion

    of GUILT ?

In the court of public opinion - which cannot be disdained in

a genuine DEMOCRACY - President Clinton is already NOT GUILTY of any

impeachable offense . Just yesterday we learned that he is 1998 's

    " Most Admired " man !

It follows from this that the LEAST ADMIRED people in the nation

are those vicious and reckless Republican Congressmen who voted to

    impeach Bill Clinton.

Indeed so odious are they that someday in Washington D.C. a

monument might be built to their SHAME !

Is Clinton the anti- Christ ?

Not to my dismay I read on the front page of the Boston

Globe this New Year's morning : " Most Admired " ( under picture of

President Bill ) . But then I wondered about the editorial in my

still indispensable Providence Journal : " Prepare for the end " .

I must ask the Projo editor : Is "  Most Admired " choice for 1998

a clear sign of THE END ?   I know the Religious Right had Bill's

number as the Anti-Christ when he began his presidency with a national

    health care plan .

I think Bill Clinton is one of those rare politicians with

the Elvis Touch . The GOP hound dogs will never get him !
